Anotace
Stručná anotace předmětu přednáška: Začíná rozborem vývoje americké poezie v poválečné době, s důrazem na poezii "nové kritiky" (či akademické poezie), poezii "Confessional School" (Školy konfesijní poezie), "New York School" (Newyorské školy), L=A=N=G=U=A=G=E (jazykové poezie) a nového formalismu. Soustředí se také na individuální autory, včetně Elizabeth Bishopové, Jamese Merrilla, Allena Ginsberga a Roberta Lowella. Dále se zabývá rozvojem prózy, zejména románu, v dané době a také základními regionálními a etnickými literaturami (jižanská literatura, židovská literatura, afroamerická literatura - viz následující tematické okruhy). Důraz bude kladen zvláště na současnou literaturu. Přednáška se též zaměří na významné představitele amerického dramatu, zejména Arthura Millera, Tennesseeho Williamse, Sama Sheparda, Augusta Wilsona a Adrienne Kennedyovou, ve vztahu k zakladateli moderního amerického dramatu Eugenu O'Neillovi i k současným vývojovým tendencím. 2. svět. válce seminář: Analýza vybraných kanonických děl dané doby se zaměřuje jak na jednotlivé texty, tak na širší otázky: historický a politický kontext, společenské a kulturní změny. Hlavní důraz se klade na spojitosti mezi politickými změnami šedesátých a sedmdesátých let a literaturou (tj. boj za občanská práva a afroamerická literatura, sexualita a feminismus ve dílech Merilla a Bishopové, atd). Důraz se v jednotlivých seminářích bude měnit podle odbornosti vyučujících, jako společné texty pro podrobnou analýzu budou vybrány zpravidla tři z následujících šesti děl: povídky Flannery O'Connorové, Invisible Man od Ralpha Ellisona, A Streetcar Named Desire od Tennesseea Williamse, The Crying of Lot 49 od Thomase Pynchona, vybrané básně od Elizabeth Bishopové a Johna Ashberyho (viz výběr v The Norton Anthology of American Literature). 1993) Assessment: To receive their credit students are required to attend at least 70% of classes and for single subject students to present an essay of 2,000 words. To conclude their study of American literature students have to pass an oral examination (souborná zkouška). For the latter the student will be examined in two of the five historical periods on the B.A. reading list (the choice of periods is at the student’s discretion). To demonstrate their knowledge of the texts representative for the selected periods students must submit reading lists to their examiner. These lists do not have to be identical with sections of the B.A. list, but they must correspond to them in terms of quantity, range of reading, and historical as well as aesthetic importance of selected texts.
