OBJECTIVES

The course will focus on contemporary British fiction of the past decade. We will read, analyse and discuss a number of important books which have been chosen to represent various trends in contemporary writing in Britain: experimental fiction (Tom McCarthy), neo-Victorian fiction (the novels by Michel Faber and Julian Barnes) etc.

Secondary writing (critical essays) will be read and discussed in the seminar.

ASSESSMENT

Students are expected to participate in discussions, deliver one oral presentation and to submit a paper of 2,500 words for a credit. In addition to that, an essay of 6,000 words should be submitted as a graded paper.
