Anotace
This seminar is aimed at Ph.D., M.A. and advanced B.A. students of historical-comparative linguistics who are starting to carry out research, e.g. for a thesis or dissertation. We will set up a basic reading list and research agenda, and meet roughly every two weeks to discuss your progress, take turns presenting your findings. The focus will be on research methods (literature search, online resources) and how best to structure a linguistic argument in writing; in addition, we will also discuss common problems in preparing an article for publication and how to overcome them. Students from other departments are especially welcome, including Germanic, Slavic, classical studies, Ancient Near Eastern studies, and South Asian studies.
