Annotation
Prague is very closely connected with literature, on several levels: on the one hand, on a cultural-historical level, that is, Prague was and is the scene of literary and cultural life, and often its specific neighborhoods directly influenced certain phases of cultural and artistic development. Prague is also a scene for literary stories.
It is the bearer of many legends and rumors, which were later processed in literature and subsequently inspired writers to create new, modern legends and myths. Prague was and is reflected in Czech poetry and prose, starting with allegorical medieval compositions through 19th century romanticism and realism to surreal and postmodern images of Prague in contemporary literature.
Prague itself also became a living being in literary texts, a living organism, the main character of some literary works. This course aims to introduce students to all these changes and forms of Prague.
The course will not only include the reading of relevant primary and secondary literature, but the course will also include several guided walks through old Prague.
