This course will discuss the role of a minority group in society and how this role affects its education, communication and relationship within the majority group. The communication methods will be discussed and compared from the perspective of the Deaf and the hearing communities.
The role of the interpreter will be explained and reviewed from all perspectives: Deaf, hearing and interpreting. The interpreting process itself will be discussed and how it has evolved over time.
A comparison between the USA and the Czech Republic will be discussed concerning the Deaf and interpreting communites, detailing the similarities and the differences, the challenges and the accomplishments.
The fundamental aspects of the Deaf minority group and how Deafs face the challenges of interaction in a hearing world.
