Annotation

This lecture course is devoted to the sculpture of the 15th and first half of the 16th century, with a focus on the context of changes in style, iconography, function and commissioning strategies. The starting point for the interpretation is the introduction of the Central European issue of the so-called German Late Gothic, into which specific examples from the regions of the Lands of the Bohemian Crown are "embedded". Methodologically, the course traces the possibilities of artistic transfer, explaining the reasons for the sharing of iconography and style depending on the visual capacity of the commissioners or contemporary recipients. On this basis, the formation of the so-called domestic artistic tradition during the reign of the Jagiellonians is then traced, using both free sculpture and panel painting as examples.
