Annotation
In the course, students are going to be acquainted with the basic principles, features, and topics of ancient
Egyptian art and iconography. The lectures will be structured into individual sections dealing with the basic principles of Egyptian art, iconography of gods and other divine beings, as well as kings, meaning and symbolism of Egyptian temple and tomb structure and decoration, offering scenes, depiction of profane and ritual activities, etc. Separate classes will also concern use and symbolic meaning of materials (e.g. stones, wood, copper), colours and shapes. During the class the students will be encouraged to discuss over the presented problems.

V průběhu kurzu se studenti seznámí se základními principy, rysy a tématy starověkého egyptského umění a ikonografie. Přednášky budou uspořádány do oddílů, jež se budou zabývat základními principy egyptského umění, ikonografie bohů a dalších božských bytostí, stejně jako králů, významu a symboliky egyptského chrámu a hrobové struktury a výzdoby, obětních scén, zobrazení profánních a rituálních činnosti atd. Přednášky se budou týkat také použití a symbolického významu materiálů (např. kameny, dřevo, měď), barev a tvarů. Nedílnou součástí kurzu bude též diskuse nad uvedenými problémy.
