1. Augustin: vztah křesťanství a platonismu; láska a svobodná vůle; problém zla (Vyznání VII –VIII; O Boží obci X a XIV); čas a věčnost (Vyznání XI)
2. Boëthius: problém jsoucna a bytí (De hebdomadibus); pravé a nepravé štěstí (blaženost); dokonalé dobro a jedno (Filosofie utěšitelkou III)
3. Dionysios Areopagita: hierarchické universum; způsoby vypovídání o nevýslovném: afirmativní, negativní, symbolická a mystická theologie (Božská jména, Mystická theologie)
4. Jan Scotus Eriugena: čtyřčetné dělení přírody; kosmogonie a theofanie (Periphyseon)
5. Anselm z Canterbury: víra hledající nahlédnutí; důkazy Boží existence (Proslogion)
6. Avicenna: pojetí metafyziky; kosmologie; pojetí esence: esence uvažovaná absolutně; rozlišení mezi esencí a bytím; Bůh jako pouhé bytí (Metafyzika al-Šifá, I, V a VII)
Annotation
The course in the summer semester 2024 is dedicated to several important figures of patristics and the Latin and Arabic Middle Ages, such as Augustine, Boethius, Dionysius the Areopagite, Johannes Scotus Eriugena, Anselm of Canterbury, Avicenna and Thomas Aquinas. We will focus on cosmological, ethical and metaphysical topics.
The aim is primarily to show how the thinkers of the Patristic and Middle Ages adopted and transformed the Platonic (or Neoplatonic) and Aristotelian philosophies, with the help of which they conceptually articulated and reflected on the central ideas of their religious tradition. At the same time, the course offers the opportunity to become more familiar with a substantial part of the topics and texts that are the subject of the medieval philosophy exam.
