The course syllabus covers certain works from several significant authors of the Golden and Silver Ages of Latin literature. The texts covered will include:
M. T. Cicero, In Catilinam
C. I. Caesar, Commentarii de bello Gallico
C. Sallustius Crispus, De coniuratione Catilinae
P. Vergilius Maro, Aeneis
P. Ovidius Naso, Metamorphoses
L. A. Seneca, Epistulae morales ad Lucilium
Depending on the tempo of class reading, the course may also include sections of the following (and possibly other) texts/authors:
Cn. Nepos, Hannibal
C. Valerius Catullus
T. Livius, Ab urbe condita
C. Plinius Secundus, Epistulae
The aim of the course is to provide students with tools enabling them to work independently with Latin texts from various authors and subject areas (historiography, biography, epistolography, philosophy, poetry, etc.).
