Annotation

Before 1989, the research of the working class was a central area of Czechoslovak historiography. After the Velvet Revolution, the topic was rather sidelined.

However, over the past decade, interest in workers’ history and history of workers’ movement has increased again. The aim of this course is to reflect this trend and to introduce the basic categories of research of the workers' movement between 1848 and 1948.

Geographically, it will focus mainly on the Czech lands. The thematically and conceptually focused lessons will be supplemented by those that chronologically present the main processes and trends of the workers' movement in the Czech Lands in a specific period.

The students should leave this course well informed about the history of the workers' movement but also in the current methods of its research.
