The module offers an overview of post-war history of the (British) Isles through parallel perspective of Ireland and Great Britain, emphasising the wider context of this economically, culturally and, to some degree, politically interconnected region. The module will be structured chronologically, with each lecture concentrating on a different decade, highlighting the social, economic and political changes which were pronounced in each time period, but also touch on other relevant topics such as popular culture. Special lectures will be devoted to foreign affairs and the conflict in Northern Ireland.

The concept of the module is based on cooperation as well as confrontation between both lecturers whose academic interest lies in one or the other part of the Isles. Each lecture will be taught jointly, introduced by an overview of the period, followed by thematic British and Irish blocks and concluded by a joint summary and discussion.

The module is open to all students regardless their prerequisite knowledge.
