Final discussion

At each class, the guest speaker will give a brief and comprehensive introduction to his/her field, with an emphasis on current issues and methodological approaches. He/she will also prepare and share a short list of current literature (mostly of the handbook type). The guest will also select a text for students to read in advance and will also lead a class discussion.

The course will be taught weekly from 22 February till 17 May 2022 (February 22; March 1, 8, 15, 22, 29; April 5, 12, 19, 26; May 3, 10, 17)

Anotace

Musicology has many points of contact with other disciplines and can benefit from a wide variety of methods to address its questions. It is a challenge for young musicologists to gain insight into other fields, but this can provide helpful impulses for their own work.

In this course, therefore, students of musicology (and related fields, like theatre and films studies) are introduced to methods and current topics in other fields of the humanities that are related to musicological research.
