Anotace

The aim of the course is to expound the fundamentals of Theravada Buddhist teachings based on the oldest preserved texts. The students will be introduced to the most important discourses, monastic rules and philosophical theories with respect to the goal of the teaching, nibbāna, final liberation from suffering.

The Tipitaka, or Pali canon, is the collection of Pali language texts which form the doctrinal foundation of Theravada Buddhism. It consists of three collections: Vinaya Pitaka (the rules of conduct for the monastic community), Sutta Pitaka (discourses attributed mainly to the Buddha) and Abhidhamma Pitaka (systematised teachings). The course will gradually introduce all three collections.
