Miniature Paintings in Early Modern India II

Anotace

The class is envisioned as a continuation of the Miniature Paintings in Early Modern India taught the previous semester. The aim of this course is to introduce students to the leading art styles developed in India between ca 1600 and 1800.

The topics will be approached in their close relationship with the historical background, especially court milieus which have taken the artistic production under their patronage. Special attention will be given to the portraiture in the Rajasthani painting tradition, and different styles developed in the Pahari kingdoms.

Teaching will be accompanied by visual material enabling students to understand the peculiarities and important details characteristic for the specific field of production.
