Videografická kritika a digital humanities
What does it mean to create audiovisual essays in our academic environment?
Are we going to make videos for youtube? Are we going to create mini-vlogs? Are we going to try to talk about images with images? All of these questions can be answered to some extent with yes or/and no.
Videographic criticism in academic (but also artistic) settings serves as a tool (as a set of practices, genres, approaches) for capturing the contemporary form of audiovisual culture. It can be a reflection on a single film, an articulation of the experience of scrolling on TikTok, or a critique of the current system of the attention economy.
The course will offer a basic introduction to videographic criticism and its related genres. However, the theoretical portion of the course will serve more as inspiration for the practical portion, as students will create very short editing exercises throughout the semester to familiarize themselves with the possibilities of editing and image deconstruction.
The aim of the course is both to provide an insight into videographic criticism, but more importantly to help students become familiar with editing software (Adobe Premiere Pro or DaVinci Resolve) and others that are not only useful for creating audiovisual essays, whether professional or popular. Basic audiovisual work can also be used outside the academic sphere.
The course is designed for beginners, no previous experience is required.
