This course, suitable for anyone interested in the Indo-European languages of ancient Anatolia or in the Near East area as such, will provide insight into the linguistic features of the oldest recorded Indo-European language. It will provide a brief introduction to cuneiform and focus on the status of Anatolian languages, their phonological and morphological features and more general issues concerning their speakers. The course will be structured in an unusual way: In one week in November, prof. Craig Malchert, co-author of the Grammar of Hittite Language and the world´s high ranked specialist in Anatolian, will present in Celetná, Prague, six lectures on Anatolian. The other lectures (7) will be taught by Dita Frantíková, PhD. in time slots as shown in the Schedule (which will implicitly cover only the first half of the semester). The materials for the classes will consist from a great part of handouts.

Both the attendance and written test are required for completion of the course.
