The course is planned as a blended course including three main types of activities: On-line instruction in real time (live sessions in MS Teams or a similar platform), self-learning, and consultations.
The following topics are included in the curriculum:
· Introductory lecture on the basics of translation technology, Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT), Machine Translation (MT) and Post-Editing Machine Translation (PEMT)
· MemSource (software) – practical introductory course
· SDL Trados Studio (software) – practical introductory course
· Introduction to MT: types, functionalities, pros & cons
· PEMT: in and outside of a CAT tool
· Final lecture: The future of the translation and interpreting professions
· Two consultation sessions
During the course, students learn about the basics of translation technology, Computer-Assisted Translation (CAT), Machine Translation (MT) and Post-Editing Machine Translation (PEMT). They will use two software tools on their own (self study): MemSource and SDL Trados Studio. They will get acquainted with the software on a basic level. They will be introduced to MT (its types, functionalities, pros & cons of its usage); they will learn about PEMT (usage in and outside of a CAT tool) and they will follow a lecture on the future of the translation and interpreting professions. Apart from the above, room for individual consultations will be provided.
