Annotation

The main theme of the course is the changes that literary and literary culture has gone through in connection with the expansion of new media. The basic methodological framework will be the concept of remedy, which allows the media change to be grasped as a two-way process, bearing both new media and older media that are forced to respond to the transformation of media discourse.

Selected literary phenomena will therefore be monitored in a relatively broad diachronic context, ranging from the nineteenth century. The starting material will be selected examples from the area of Czech literature, which will, however, be presented in a transnational context.

Together, we will look for answers to, for example, the following questions: What is the difference between the way of writing and publishing a literary work in the form of digital and printed text? How did the reader's position change in the interactive media environment? Is the relation of Czech literature to new media in a transnational context something specific? And is it truly revolutionary changes, or just about changing the older literary forms transferred to the new environment?
