Class at Faculty of Arts |

Annotation

The course focuses on the phenomenon of data and related topics such as privacy, digitization, monetization of the web to the very practical applications of data use that we encounter in real life. On what principles do banks approve mortgage applications and what data sources do they use to do so? How does my favourite e-shop personalise the items offered in the mailing and how do I even get into the mailing in the first place? Are we living in a panopticon?

The goal of the course is to take the audience through the historical context, the regulatory framework and answer the above questions. To demystify data as a universal thing and to gain insight into the data ecosystem of the commercial world, where AI is not AI as AI and where machine learning is often used in a sledgehammer style.
