Interest in the issue of integrating pupils with different mother tongues (DMT) into the Czech education system has been growing steadily, especially in recent years in connection with the refugee crisis caused by the war in
Ukraine.
The aim of the course is to familiarise participants with basic terminology and basic data on the number of migrants in the Czech Republic and in the education system. The course will also include information on how the academic skills of pupils with a migration history differ on average from those of the native population (with the use of PISA tests). We will be interested in whether there are differences in the level of feeling of belonging to school, the level of anxiety about school, the level of feeling of unfair treatment and the level of feeling threatened by bullying. Their motivation to achieve educational success and their educational aspirations will also be discussed. Finally, we will look at what education systems can do to ensure the successful adaptation of DMT pupils to education systems.
In the case of distance learning students, active participation in class and the preparation of a seminar paper critically reflecting on the findings of selected literature on the subject are prerequisites for the award of credits. In the case of full-time students, active participation in classes and the completion of homework assignments is a condition for the award of credit.
