1. Introduction into the theory of verse, essential terms; prosody, prosodic systems; speechsound instrumentation, rhyme.
2. Speech units (speechsound, syllable, stress group, intonation phrase) and their role in the perception of the rhythmical organization in a language material.
3. Characteristics of the Czech chronometric verse.
4. Characteristics of the Czech syllabic verse.
5. Characteristics of the Czech syllabotonic verse.
6. Characteristics of the Czech free verse.
7. Analysis of selected sound samples based on given criteria (students' reports and discussions).
The course introduces the sound characteristics of verse, also in the relation to the possibilities given by the sound structure of a given language. Students are led to appreciating the sound properties and their specific organization which constitutes the perception of rhythm in poetic texts.
The course includes practical analyses of selected poems.
