The Religion of Ancient Egypt

Annotation

The aim of the course is to introduce students to ancient Egyptian religion throughout the ages. We will look more closely at the organization of Egyptian society, the public and private aspect of Egyptian religiosity and their interconnection with social institutions.

We will show the multi-layered nature of Egyptian religious ideas and, at the same time, try to understand the underlying patterns. Based on the analysis of images and text material, we will show the basic principles on which the ancient Egyptian religion was built and also the paradoxes it was struggling with.

The course is open to anyone interested in the topic and does not require any previous knowledge of the subject except for the ability to read in English.
