Course objectives:
Students will become familiar with the current theoretical concept and practice of school social work in the world and in the Czech Republic. Students will be able to describe models of school social work. They will understand the basic determinants of the development of school social work in the Czech Republic. They will be able to identify opportunities, as well as obstacles and limits to the application of social work in primary and secondary schools in the Czech Republic.
Competency-enhancing goals:
Students will have the opportunity critically reflect on the current state of practice and research in school social work in the world and in the Czech Republic.
Attestation requirements:
The course ends with an exam.
In LMS Moodle, submit a seminar paper and a presentation on a specified topic corresponding to the course content, active participation in teaching blocks.
Grade:
Attendance with active participation (min. participation in 4 blocks): 30 points
Presentation: 30 points
Seminar paper: 40 points
TThe course will be organized in six teaching blocks, which will focus on the following topics:
School social work - theoretical definition. Ecological perspective. Models of school social work.
Current state of development of school social work in the world and in the Czech Republic. Research in the field of school social work.
Institutionalization of the profession of school social work in the Czech Republic - opportunities and obstacles.
The role of the school social worker. Job description.
Prevention of risky behaviour. Methods and techniques of social work suitable for application in schools.
Social worker and/or social pedagogue?
Multidisciplinary cooperation - prevention methodologist, educational counsellor, school psychologist, school special educator, teaching assistant, class teacher, social worker.
Current topics in school social work in the Czech Republic: child and parent participation, parental competence, children's rights or other topics of students' choice.
