This is not a language course but a ‘linguistic characterology’ of Hungarian. Students do not need to speak Hungarian at all to attend the course.
The aim of this lecture and seminar is to explore the phonological and morphosyntactic features of Hungarian language from the linguistic point of view. Also, external linguistic facts about Hungarian will be given during the lectures (the origin and genealogy of Hungarian, its contact phenomena and areality etc.).
The seminar part consists mainly of reading linguistic articles and working with the World Atlas of Language Structures (WALS, https://wals.info/).
