Cíl kursu
Seznámení s „čistou podobou“ vybraných perspektiv studia sociálních hnutí a schopnost jejich aplikace při vzájemném srovnání.
Organizace kursu
V každé hodině proběhnou 2 referáty studentů s aktivním zapojením dalších zúčastněných. Povinné texty pro všechny studenty: vždy jeden z nabízených pro danou hodinu (doporučené texty jsou všechny další uvedené).
Součástí kursu je práce v terénu (rozhovor, pozorování), která vyústí v závěrečný text (případová studie vybrané organizace nebo protestu). Diskusní texty budou dostupné v Moodle.
Důležité termíny: do 29. 10. - nahlášení zkoumané organizace sociálního hnutí nebo protestu (pro úkol z terénu+případovou studii). V případě problému s realizací možno po konzultaci změnit. od 12. 11. a dále (7. hodina) - diskuse problémů/zkušeností s realizací úkolů z terénu (dle potřeby však možno diskutovat i dříve). do 3. 12. 2019 - zaslání reflexe úkolů z terénu 6. 3. 2020 - deadline pro odevzdání případové studie

Annotation
This course explores the major theoretical and empirical approaches used in the social sciences to understand the emergence, endurance, and outcomes of social movement activism. We will proceed according to three thematic units: (1) Political Opportunity Structure, (2) Internal Mobilizing Structures, and (3) Framing Processes.
Course readings and lecture/ discussion will introduce students to core concepts and new research from the field of social movement theory. Additionally, we will examine social movement tactics and the effectiveness of movements in changing both policy and cultural norms.
We will pay particular attention to counter-movements and (especially qualitative) research methods.
