Annotation

Anglophone Literature about the Czechs

The seminar is primarily designed for Erasmus students, who will examine how Anglophone authors perceive Bohemia (Prague) and its inhabitants on selected texts (both prose and poetry) of the 20th century. Several questions about English texts with Czech themes will be asked, such as:

How does the perception of the given topic of non-Czech authors differ from the Czech viewpoint, what are the causes of these differences, what stereotypes appear in the texts and with what purpose are they used, in what context is the text with Czech themes perceived by an English-speaking reader (versus a Czech reader), etc.
