Syllabus

revision of general overview of German language development familiarization with recommended literature and dictionaries for the period of Middle Upper and Middle Lower German

German dialects on examples of the texts of the territory of today's German-speaking states and the Czech Republic translations of specific Middle German texts, mostly of Czech and Moravian origin analysis of all levels (orthography, vocalism, consonantism, vocabulary and syntax) practice of writing regest in German language

Annotation

The course is devoted to the practical training of reading German written sources from the 14th - 15 century.

During the lessons, the students will get acquainted with the translation of German medieval texts on examples of concrete texts.

The whole topic is adapted to the professional needs of graduates of archival science and auxiliary historical sciences or history.

The seminar focuses on the outline of the development of the German language, an overview of the German dialects, the introduction of German geographical names in the Czech Republic.

The seminar will revise and deepen the knowledge of historical measures and weights, historical holidays and dates and geographical names in comparison with Czech and German equivalents.

Entry to the course is conditional on passing the B2 exam at the Language Center of the Faculty of Arts and obtaining a credit in the Deutsch der neuzeitlichen Quellen course.
