1. Introduction, unofficial poetry in 1960s a 70s in China, Baiyangdian poets 白洋淀诗群 (Huang Xiang, Mang Ke, Duoduo, Shizhi)

2. Jintian Poets (Jintian shiren 今天诗人), Misty Poets (Menglong shiren 朦胧诗人) (Beidao, Gucheng, Shu Ting, Liang Xiaobin)

3. “Third Generation” Poets (Di san dai 第三代、 Houmenglong 后朦胧 (Han Dong, Yu Jian, Li Yawei, Wan Xia)

4. Poetesses of 1980s (Zhai Yongming, Lu Yimin, Wang Xiaoni)

5. Root-seekers (Xungen shiren 寻根诗人) (Yang Lian, Haizi)

6. “Feifeists” (Feifei shiren 非非诗人) (Zhou Lunyou, Lan Ma, Jimulangge, Yang Li)

The aim of the course is to provide an introduction to the Chinese poetry of 1980s, the major poetry groups, poets and poetesses of this period. The first part of each lesson is focused on a particular poetry group (up to the syllabus schedule), a short overview is presented. The second part of the lessons is focused on poets and poetesses selected and their poetry works. The analysis and interpretation of the poems and group discussion about them will be based both on the Chinese texts and their English translations.

In case of shifting classes online – MS Teams will be used.

This course is only for Erasmus students.
