Annotation

This optional course is aimed at extending the knowledge of causative agents of parasitic infections commonly discussed in Microbiology I and II. Students are acquainted with pathogenic effects of different parasites, with the basics of pathogenesis of individual diseases and with their clinical picture.

The course also extends the knowledge of available diagnostic methods of direct and indirect evidence of agents in clinical material, with the limitations of these methods (in relation to the method, the possibility of material collection or patient status, etc.), with the selection, collection and storage of material, and with the interpretation of results of the examination. Available drugs against parasitic infections are also mentioned in the course.

In selected case reports, it is demonstrated to students how to use the theoretical knowledge of the causative agent in the diagnosis of the disease.
