Annotation

Basic knowledge of drug prescription, general principles of pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, adverse effects of drugs and their interactions. Medicinal drug addiction and abuse.Pregnancy, lactation, childhood, elderly patients. - Special part aimed at drug groups important in dentistry: local anaesthetics, non-steroid antiinflammatory drugs, drugs effecting blood clotting, selected antibacterial, antifungal, antiviral drugs (including those for HIV treatment), topically applied drugs. - Further, basic knowledge of those groups of drugs with which the patient may be treated by other medical specialists and the effects and interactions of which have to be taken into account:

1) cardiovascular and respiratory systems, including bronchial asthma;

2) drugs effecting CNS - antiepileptics, antiparkinsonics as well as drugs used in degenerative CNS diseases etc.;

3) drugs effecting the peripheral nervous system;

4) digestive system - ulcerous and inflammatory diseases - Crohn´s disease etc.;

5) drugs used in endocrine gland impairment (pancreas - diabetes mellitus, thyroid gland); contraceptives, corticosteroids, drugs regulating calcium homeostasis in bones;

6) basic antitumour chemotherapeutics;

7) immunomodulatory drugs. PC interactive programs will be used as part of the course.
