Annotation

Case Studies without Border is a course available to both the English and Czech parallel. It is aimed to be an all- inclusive elective giving a chance for both parallel to learn together. This elective is primarily thought by 5th and 6th-year tutors. The course itself is thought in English however we do want to encourage you to join especially if

English is not your mother tongue. We are all here to learn together.

The course involves weekly 1-2 hour lessons for 10-12 weeks.

This course is designed to train clinical thinking as well as the application of knowledge already acquired. The most efficient way to learn is to do so in the setting where the knowledge will need to be applied and in this case, this means on the patient. The students will be walked through a collection of case studies, case reports, and

USMLE like questions to trained the aforementioned skills/knowledge.

Clinical thinking does not magically appear and the purpose of this course is in a way to give you the opportunity to utilize what you have learned and will be learning in a clinical fashion. We want to train your clinical thinking and knowledge application by making you practice what you will have to practice once you reach upper years and once you are an MD.

The course is built around the syllabus of the 3rd year pathophysiology practicals and works very well in conjunction with this year. There are no year requirements however this course is best designed for the 3rd and 4th years. Upper years may join as well but we do encourage those two years to join this elective as clinical thinking takes time to develop and we want you to develop good habits from the very start of your clinical years.

The requirement for credit at the end of the course will be 80% attendance to the classes as well as the submission of your own case study at the end of the course. We will walk you through the case study requirement during the first lesson. The lessons are held over zoom to ensure that you may join wherever you currently are staying during this pandemic
