The first part of the course introduces students to the concepts and functions of public health, the concept of health and disease and to the most important determinants of population health, in wider socio-economic context . Emphasis is placed on health status assessment as a basis for health policy. Students are acquainted with the models of health systems in the world, including principles, organization and management of the Czech healthcare system.
In the field of social medicine attention is paid to health and health care provision for children and the elderly, as well as to specific health and social problems related to vulnerable social groups such as ethnic minorities and migrants.
The legal block provides an overview of current EU health legislation with emphasis on legal liability of health professionals and patients' rights.
The subject is conceived as a theoretical one. Topics are divided into three thematic areas: Public Health, Social
Medicine and Medical Law.
