The goal of ICM practice for students
1) to know how to admitt the patient to the hospital - acute and routine admission,
2) to understand the importance of multidisciplinary care in healthcare facilities and communication within multidisciplinary teams,
3) to practice professional communication with the patient and his relatives,
4) to know indications for examination, care of patient before examination, during and after examination, including pre-operative and post-operative procedures (radiodiagnostic, endoscopic examination, ultrasound, etc.), as well as communication of results to patients,
5) to gain skills in performing clinical procedures (measurement and assessment of physiological functions, prevention of nosocomial infections, assessment, monitoring and treatment of pain, application of i.m. injections, preparation and application of i.v. injections, permanent urinary catheter insertion, capillary and venous blood sampling, peripheral vein cannulation, principles of multidisciplinary care - take care of nutrition, decubitus and chronic wounds, falls, surgical wound dressings, etc.),
6) to learn the issue of patient education in connection with the diagnostic and therapeutic plan of care and event. other measures in connection with the disease (e.g. diabetes mellitus),
7) to know how to plan the patient's transfer to another unit, or discharge, including appropriate communication with the patient and relatives.

Professional practice is part of Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM) in the 2nd year. It is provided in clinical department ( in detail https://www.lf3.cuni.cz/3LFEN-72.html ) throughout the whole academic year and during the summer vacation and follows the theoretical and practical lessons of the ICM II. It is focused on the general issue of clinical propaedeutics and take care of patients.
