Syllabus

1. structure of monoclonal antibodies and the methodology and history of their preparation. Mouse, human, chimeric and recombinant antibodies

2. the CD system and differentiation molecules of leukocytes, membrane phenotypes of hematopoietic and immunocompetent cells determined by monoclonal antibodies

3. the use of monoclonal antibodies in the immunology, immunoanalysis, hematology and virology, immunodiagnosis of blood and immune system disorders

4. the antigens and antibodies in the therapy of leukemias, lymphomas and malignant diseases

5. the outline of currently approved therapeutic monoclonal antibodies, antibodies in experimental and clinical trials and the possible mechanism of their action

6. the therapeutic cytokines in hematology, immunology and in neurology (in the treatment of multiple sclerosis), interferons and interleukins and thier history

7. perspectives of the monoclonal antibody based targeted therapy of malignant tumors, leukemias, lymphomas and autoimmune disorders in future, discussion, practical demonstrations

Annotation

Compulsory optional course designated for the 3rd and 4th year of medical study. It presents biochemistry and immunochemistry of monoclonal antibodies, methodology of hybridoma construction, diagnostic and therapeutic use of monoclonal antibodies and cytokines in immunology, hematology and in the treatment of cancer and autoimmune disorders.

It includes also practical demonstration of immunofluorescence and tissue cultures.
