Anotace

The aim is to increase understanding of the epidemiology of neurodegenerative dieseases and problematize recent studies on efforts to prevent dementia. An important part of this course is to provide the students with skills to evaluate results from observational epidemiological studies and randomized controlled trials. The following topics will be covered: Neuropathology and clinical manifestation of neurodegenerative diseaes; key concepts in epidemiology of neurodegenerative dieseases; cardiovascular and psychosocial risk factors for dementia; life-course approach towards dementing disorders; studies on declining incidence of dementia; recent trials aimed at dementia prevention.

The course is held on weekends to facilitace intensive and focused learning as well as informal environment. The course is in English and is appropriate for medical students of the English as well as the Czech curriculum.
