Theoretical part (total 7 hours) is organized into two parts: 1) communication skills in specific situations (restless patient, delirious patient, demented patient, intoxicated patient, acutely psychotic patient, anxious patient); and 2) psychiatric report: identifying data, first ?impression?, family history, previous and current medical illnesses, alcohol and other substance use history, personal history, previous psychiatric illnesses, history of present illness, mental status examination, diagnosis and differential diagnosis, further diagnostic studies, treatment plan. For practical part (total 7 hours) students are expected to talk with psychiatric patient by themselves, to ask relevant questions in order to examine the mental status.
Also, they are expected to study medical records and write Mental Status Examination by thein own based on the interview.
Psychiatric propedeutics is designed to 1) teach basic interviewing skills in mentally ill; and 2) provide oral and written report on the clinical examination of psychiatric patient including present mental status examination.
