INFECTIOUS DISEASES FOR 4th COURSE DENTAL MEDICINE

The syllabus:

Section I

Infectious causes of diarrhea. Viral hepatitis

Infectious gastroenteritis of viral and bacterial origin and foodborne toxigenic diarrhoea (clinical course, diagnosis, therapy, prophylaxis)

Differential diagnosis of infectious and non – infectious diarrhoea

Complications of infectious diarrheal diseases

Incidence and epidemiology of viral hepatitis type A, B, C. Clinical picture, therapy. Possibilities of the prophylaxis

Differential diagnosis of acute hepatitis (infectious and non-infectious origin)  

Section II

Exanthematic diseases and lymphadenopathy

Differential diagnosis of rashes. Viral and bacterial pathogens in the etiology of „exanthematic diseases“

Differential diagnosis of infectious and non-infectious causes of lymphadenopathy, mainly in orofacial region

Viral, bacterial and protozoal cause sof lymphadenopathy  

Section III

Neuroinfections – bacterial and aseptic meningitis

Epidemiology, etiology, clinical features, diagnostic approach. Differential diagnosis, treatment, prognosis, prophylaxis

Bacterial meningitis - haemophilus meningitis, pneumococcal meningitis, meningococcal infection

Septicaemia. Septic shock

Viral meningitis and encephalitis. Tick borne infections (TBE, Lyme disease, ehrlichiosis, rickettsiosis, tularaemia). Parotitis epidemica (Mumps) and complications of CNS

Botulism. Tetanus  

Section IV

Respiratory tract infections. AIDS

Herpesvirus infections (HSV-1, HSV-2), Chickenpox and herpes zoster

Influenza, parainfluenza, other viral infections of respiratory tract /RS virus, adenovirus, enterovirus, rhinovirus, acute obstructive laryngitis /croup/  

AIDS as a consequence of HIV infection. Symptoms in orofacial region

Opportunistic infections and tumours associated with AIDS  

EPIDEMIOLOGY:

General epidemiology, disinfetion, disinsection, deratisation, sterilization, vaccination, epidemiology of artropod-borne infections, gastrointestinal infections, viral hepatitis, nosocomial infections, HIV/AIDS. Epidemiological news.
