Anotace

The course Current Issues in Pharmacology follows the basic 2-semester pharmacology. During the semester, students will focus on chapters that did not fit into basic pharmacology and are currently undergoing rapid development. At the same time, the orientation to clinical practice is remembered - students will practice already acquired theoretical knowledge and their application in solving clinical cases in a special course in MOODLE. At the same time, students will participate in laboratory examination of vitamin D blood levels, monitoring the effectiveness of its supplementation and evaluation of its quality. Syllabus

1. Vitamin D - only a trending topic? (or will be something on it…?) Basic concepts, discovery, and history of the use of vitamin D. The beginnings of the use of the effects of vitamin D - solar and UV therapy. Vitamin D metabolism, reference values. Vitamin D and the immune system. Use of vitamin D in sports. Blood draw and determination of vitamin D levels (for volunteers). Correspondence assessment of vitamin D levels and supplementation using cholecalciferol. Taking cholecalciferol for 1 month, then a second blood draw. prof. PharmDr. Radek Kučera, Ph.D.

2. Drugs and media Rules for the promotion of medical products, medical products, and food supplements. Nutrition and health claims - conditions of their use. How the law is commonly circumvented in advertising and what consequences it brings for patients. PharmDr. and Bc. Eva Dědečková, MUDr. Michal Jirásko

3. New synthetic drugs (designer drugs) How are drug manufacturers trying to get ahead of the law? Which distribution channels do new drugs move through? Basic groups - Psychedelics, dissociative drugs, empathogens, stimulants, sedatives, GHB analogues, and synthetic cannabinoids - products, nomenclature, use, toxicity, examples of abuse, legislative measures.

4. Food supplements Differences between medicinal products and dietary supplements. Can dietary supplements be hazardous? Examples of dangerous or potentially risky food supplements on the market. How to choose the right and high-quality dietary supplement. How to make your own dietary supplement. How to register and place a dietary supplement on the market. 5. Toxicology of pollutants - environmental toxicology New and emerging pollutants. What we drink, eat, and breathe without knowing well the long-term effects on our health. Possible inevitable consequences of human production on living organisms. MUDr. Michal Jirásko , PharmDr. Eva Dědečková

6. Vitamin D - evaluation Evaluation of measured vitamin D levels, evaluation of supplementation success. Supplementation models, calculation of the loading dose. Risks associated with hypovitaminosis. prof. PharmDr. Radek Kučera, Ph.D.
