Indication and interpretation of laboratory results in the form of case reports

Class at Faculty of Medicine in Pilsen |
EAVP54002

Annotation

Laboratory results help in most decisions about the patient's future fate. Fourth year students encounter laboratory results in clinical education and often have only a very superficial understanding of them.

Using case examples from real clinical practice, we will guide the student through the pitfalls of indicating laboratory methods, errors in the preanalytical and analytical phases, and focus on the practical interpretation of the most commonly misunderstood laboratory results (acid-base balance, ion imbalances, renal and hepatic disorders, cardiac markers, and more). Teaching will be mainly in the form of independent work in small groups, which will be supported by e-learning preparation on the topics discussed.

Upon successful completion of the course, the student will be able to independently navigate basic laboratory results and make rational decisions in their indication and interpretation.
