Syllabus
Lectures Lectures in the winter term will introduce the topics of clinical microbiology in six areas focusing on pathogens, differential diagnosis and therapy.
1. Alimentary infections. Viral, bacterial and parasitic infections2. Respiratory infections. Influenza. TBC.
3. Sexually transmitted diseases. Gonorrhoea, Chlamydia, Syphilis, HIV, viral hepatitis.4. Vector borne infections (tick, mosquitos, louse, heteropter)5. Vaccine-preventable infections. Mandatory and recommended vaccination.6. Nosocomial infections. Causative agents, symptomatology, diagnostics and therapy of nosocomial infections and infections of blood stream - onlineLecturers:. The students will discuss with their teachers clinical cases (differential diagnosis, suspected pathogens and therapy). They will also be able to see examples of daily routine in the clinical diagnostic laboratory with selected diagnostic tasks. In addition, two seminar sessions will be held on the topics of
1) infections in the childhood and
2) infections in immunocompromised patients.

4. CNS infections. Interactive case reports.
5. Sexually transmitted diseases. Interactive case reports.
6. Infections in children. Newborn sepsis. Trans-placentary transmitted infections. Viral exanthematic diseases. (Seminar)
7. Skin and tissue infections. Infections of joints and bones. Interactive case report.
8. Systematic infections. Interactive case reports.
9. Infections of immunosuppressed patients. Main opportunistic pathogens (bacterial, viral, mycotic and parasitic) in specific groups of immunosuppressed patients. Specifics of diagnostics. (Seminar) CREDIT TEST.

Application of principles of both general and special bacteriology, virology, parasitology and mycology, including laboratory diagnostics, into the clinical practice. Essentials of clinical mikrobiology, systemic infections.
Alimentary infections. Vectorn borne diseases.
Sexually transmitted diseases and infections of the urinary tract. Respiratory diseases.
Infections of the CNS. Childhood infections.
Infections of the skin and soft tissues. Infections in immunocompromised patients.
Vaccination. Nosocomial infections.
Practical application by interactive learning using clinical cases with the focus on the differential diagnosis, proper sampling techniques and an appropriate antibiotic therapy.
