Outcomes (Gynecology and Obstetrics I): 1. the student will acquire theoretical knowledge of obstetrics 2. the student acquires basic practical skills in clinical reasoning, diagnosis and treatmentand and clinical activities in the field of gynaecology and obstetrics

Organisation of care in pregnancy, antenatal care. Statistical indicators of pregnancy. Perinatal and maternal morbidity and mortality. Neonatal morbidity. Legal issues in obstetrics. (Kacerovský)

Diagnosis of pregnancy. Complications of early pregnancy - early pregnancy loss, ectopic pregnancy. Prenatal diagnosis - ultrasound diagnosis management. Methods of pregnancy termination during 1st and 2nd trimester. (Kacerovská Musilová)

Intrauterine fetal development. Stages of intrauterine fetal development, pregnancy duration, determination of gestational age. Placenta - the morphology, location, function. Fetal membranes, amniotic fluid. Obstetrics analgesia and anesthesia. (Gregor)

Normal fetal lie, presentation, attitude, position. Fetal malposition and malpresentation - breech presentation, transverse, oblique and unstable lie. Obstetrics examination before and during labour - external and internal obstetric examination, external examination of the pelvis. Fetal well-being assessment - determination of fetal vitality, hypoxia diagnosis. (Hodík)

Normal labour, stages of labour, mechanism and management . Abnormalities of the expulsive forces. Home birth. (Hodík)

Placental and umbilical cord abnormalities. Trophoblastic disease, placenta praevia, placenta accreta, placental abruption, umbilical cord abnormalities. Abnormal amount of amniotic fluid.(Kacerovská Musilová)

Abnormalities of 3 rd stage of labour, uterine atony. Perineal tear. Peripartal haemorrhage. Amniotic fluid embolism. Tromboembolism in pregnancy and in labour. Pre-eclampsia, eclampsia, HELLP. (Stráník )

Normal pregnancy. Maternal physiology - cardiovascular, respiratory, gastrointestinal, uropoetic, endocrine systems, metabolic and skin changes. (Štěpán Martin)

Preterm birth - spontaneous and iatrogenic. Post-term pregnancy. Labour pre-induction and induction. Prostaglandins in pregnancy. Stillbirth. Diabetes in pregnancy. (Kacerovský)

Seminars

Assisted vaginal delivery (vacuum extraction, forceps) - indications, requirements, technique, complications, hands-on training. Breech presentation and multiple pregnancy - management of labour, phantom training.

Assessment of fetal well-being. Cardiotocography - theory, presentation and analysis of particular cases. ST waveform analysis. Fetal pulse oximetry.

Normal labour - stages of labour, mechanism and management, hands-on training, phantom training, DVD.

Caesarean section - indications, technique, DVD. Female sterilisation.

Antepartum and postpartum haemorrhage. Case report.

Prenatal ultrasound diagnosis, screening of fetal abnormalities - theory, DVD.

Students will start practical courses at the Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology at 8.00 AM. All students must have white clothing (white trousers, white coat, white shirt or T-shirt and white shoes) for practical courses.
