Lectures: Extent of teaching: 10 h

1. Anaesthesia, analgesia - definitions, types, preanaesthetic examination, risk assessment, preoperative preparation, equipment for safe anaesthesia management, airway and i.v. access equipment.

2. General anaesthesia - types, pharmacology of drug used in general anaesthesia, course of general anaesthesia, complications

3. Regional anaesthesia - types, pharmacology of drugs used in regional anaesthesia, course of regional anaesthesia, complications

4. Post anaesthetic care, postoperative pain relief.

5. Advanced life support, post cardiac arrest care.

6. Intensive care - definitions, critically ill patient, types of ICUs, organization. SIRS, sepsis, MODS.

7. Respiratory failure, ALI/ARDS, oxygen therapy, mechanical ventilation.

8. Shock, shock models, catecholamines, inotropes, fluids - hypovolemia management

9. Unconsciousness - intoxications, cerebral stroke, craniocerebral trauma, neuroinfections.

10. Essentials of infusion therapy, nutrition, haemotherapy, prevention of common complications.   Workshops: Extent of teaching: 20 h

1. Practical training in advanced life support - 4 hours. BLS, airway obstruction (foreign body obstruction), iv access, medication, defibrillation, 4H, 4T, clinical scenarios in teams (standard ward CPR, postanesthesia unit, catheterization theatre)

2. Anaesthesia simulation – 4 hours Safety in anaesthesia (patient identity, equipment check, ..), intravenous access, airway management, intravenous induction of anaesthesia, trachea intubation, anaesthesia management (inhalational anaesthetic agent, muscle relaxation, analgesia), clinical scenarios in teams

3. Anaesthesia demonstration at the operating theatre – 4hours Principles of general and regional anaesthesia management, post anaesthetic care, postoperative pain relief case reports.

4. Intensive care  1 (multidisciplinary unit) – 4 hours Case reports presentation and analysis, the most common cases in intensive care, complications of intensive care and their prevention (nosocomial infections, thrombosis, stress gastrointestinal bleeding), infusion therapy, nutritional support, mechanical ventilation, oxygen therapy

5. Intensive care 2 (cardiac surgery)  - 4 hours Case reports presentation and analysis, shock, shock models, bleeding, blood loss management, extracorporeal support, renal replacement therapy in intensive care
