Annotation

In the first part of the course we will discuss the possibilities of gene therapy (mainly gene therapy of cancer diseases and the use of stem cells for regeneration therapy) including examples from running clinical trials. In the subsequent part students will be informed about new approaches in clinical cytogenetics.

In the next part the survey of new methodological approaches in oncological cytogenetics will be given, including new approaches in regulation of gene expression (knockout genes, antisense DNA and RNA, RNA interference, etc.). Next part will be focused on the mechanism of cell damage by cold and principles of cryoprotection in biological systems.

In the last part the ethical problems related to the practical use of molecular biology will be discussed, in particular the presymtomatic DNA diagnosis and cloning of the human being.
