* Basic theoretical issues in legal translation: role of the knowledge of source law and target law

Unit 2

* Approaches to interpretation of the source text (How many legal "Englishes" are there?); conceptual analysis; translation of Czech phrases expressing presumptions

Unit 3

* Identification of translational difficulties; role of dictionaries; general part of the Civil Code, statute of limitations; prescription; lapse of claim

Unit 4

* Approaches to the translation of terminology; family law

Unit 5

* Synonymy in terminology; polysemy in terminology; property law I; Czech "poručník" v. "opatrovník" in English

Unit 6 property law II, ownership

Unit 7 acquisition of ownership by succession

Unit 10 liability - based on fault, no-fault, contractual / non-contractual obligations

Anotace

Seminář má za cíl seznámit studenty se základními principy překládání právních textů a překladatelskými postupy při překládání české civilní legislativy a odvozených právnických textů do angličtiny. Závěrečné hodnocení vychází z hodnocení průběžně vypracovaných překladů.
