Syllabus

Aims of the course:

The course is designed for university graduates who wish to develop their career in the EU institutions. The European Personnel Selection Office (EPSO) organises the selection procedure.The course is divided into four modules, thate each university organise two of them. Modules I and IV organized by Charles University and Modules II and III organized by the University of Economics, Prague are complementary, together they form a comprehensive preparation on the basis of which the applicants will be preparedThe.

Course is complementary to the preparatory course organised by Charles University in Prague, which emphasises the development of factual knowledge about the EU and communication skills (the STAR method).

Learning outcomes and competences:

Graduates of the course

- will be able to distinguish between different forms of employment/service for the EU bodies and institutions

- will gain an overview of the EU Staff Regulations

- will improve their analytical skills

- will improve their oral and written expression on EU-related topics

- will gain an overview of the internal workings of the EU bodies, and institutions which is essential for succeeding in the selection procedure

Graduates will improve their skills in

- teamwork

- working under time pressure

- proposing alternative solutions to problems related to the EU agenda.

Course contents: 1. Work opportunities for the EU: contract agents, temporary agents, officials, seconded national experts 2. Legal status of EU officials under the Staff Regulations - video and self-study 3. CBTs: verbal reasoning, numerical reasoning and abstract reasoning 4. Case study (theoretical introduction in the video, writing a mock case study and peer review of a case study by classmates) 6. Reserve list -- validity; lobbying for a service position 7. Sharing the experience of EU officials and other EU staff 8. Resolving exercises in moodle

The aim of the course is to raise awareness of career options and opportunities in the EU institutions and bodies and to increase the chances of success in open selection procedures in order to increase the representation of Czechs in the European Union.

The course is provided by the Charles University as part of a joint project of Charles University (UK) and the University of Economics in Prague (VŠE).
