Syllabus

Program:

1) Practical basics of photography. Principles of photographic imagery. Camera and its functions. Types of cameras, accessories. Practical part: photogram.

2) Taking pictures: exposure and its measuring. Basics of photographic composition.

3) Negative process: technics, developing, negatives, archiving.

4) Positive process: technics, contact sheets, enlarging.

5) Shooting: picture news.

6) Darkroom, discussion.

7) Shooting: news portrait, indoor, outdoor.

8) Darkroom, discussion.

9) Shooting: reportage.

10) Darkroom, discussion.

11) Light, types. Required: full attendance at and participation in each lecture and lab, all photographic tasks finished.

Annotation

The aim of this class is to master basics of black and white photography. Students will learn technical and creative basics of photography, darkroom process and make their own BW enlargements.

Important part of the class is analysis of pictures and achiving of greater visual literacy of students. Students should be interested in photography, it is essetial to absolve class Photojournalism 1 first.

Class is heavily time-consuming, it is necessary to work in darkroom also in students free time.
