The course Global Politics of Development and Environment (GPDE) introduces bachelor students into two subfields of International relations – Development studies and Global Environmental Politics. The course explores fundamental issues, theoretical accounts, and current policies of each of the topics, further combining them in the context of the current global regime of climate change.
It aims to unpack development-environment nexus, addressing the pending question how it is possible to develop sustainably, i.e., to ‘meet the needs of the present without compromising the ability of future generations to meet their own needs’.
