The course provides the students with a basic overview of regional security with an enhanced focus on European and transatlantic security. Course participants will be introduced to some of the key concepts and problems discussed in the field of regional security studies.

They will also gain some empirical knowledge of regional security cooperation outside of the European/Western context and will learn to adopt a comparative regionalist perspective, critically evaluating the similarities and differences in regional security challenges, political and cultural legacies, concomitant path dependencies, and the ensuing trajectories of the local institution building efforts.
