Annotation

This course provides an introduction to the study of civil-military relations (CMR). It is commonplace for strategic studies to view armed forces (AF) merely as an instrument at the disposal of security and defence policy.

Among the objectives of this course is to problematize this view. Political, ethical, and normative distinctions between AF and their parent society form the basis of the CMR problematique.
