Anotace
The module is designed to provide the students with basic summary of international law system, its specifics in legal systems, basics of its evolution and history and also to identify and describe the most important general and special parts of international law itself. After passing the module students are capable of understanding the basic functioning of international law and law-based international relations.
The general international law aspects that the module deals with include sources of international law (both under art. 38 Statute of the ICJ as well as others), subjects of international law (international legal personality, states, international organizations, individuals etc.), state responsibility and relationship between international and municipal law (particularly on the example of the Czech constitutional order). The topics are elaborated upon theoretically with the support of case-law of the International Court of Justice and other international judicial organs.
The second part of the module is dedicated to basic information about the human rights protection, such as human rights at universal and regional (particularly European) level, humanitarian law, the law of international security and chosen up-to-date topics. Each topic discussions are supported by case-law of the various judicial and quasi-judicial organs in order to understand the intepretation of various international treaties.
Current topics of international law are being discussed upon the relevant international legal documents.
Students are expected to prepare for the lectures and seminars by reading provided documents and bringing international law materials. They are expected to take part in discussions on relevant topics. Described activity is a requirement to be able to write the final test.
